A Gathering for the Great Song
July 23 7-9pm @ Emily Oaks Nature Center
Doors open at 6:45pm
Presented by Hazon Eliyahu and Co-Sponsored by Makom Shalom Mitziut
Join Hazon Eliyahu, the Vision of Elijah, for an embodied ceremony of moving from a place of narrowness to a a place of expanse. This experience observes the closing of Tisha b'Av by birthing vision(s) for the Great Song. The Great Song is the union of all our heart-beats, the song of life... and the song we will create together as we sing, pray, and move on July 23.
Tisha b'Av begins at sundown on July 22 and ends at sundown on July 23. This Jewish day is historically one of grieving the destruction of the ancient Temple in Jerusalem both times, as well as many other atrocities said to happen on the same day across history. Today, this day of practice also grieves the historical destruction of cultures, peoples, animals, and ecosystems.
It is said that Tisha b'Av begins with grief and ends with the birthing of the messiah, which we take to mean the birth of vision for healing of our world.
We have chosen to offer a ceremony that will aid in the transition from grief to this birth, and provide space for tears, singing, movement, and also musical joyous expansion.
Utilizing meditation, song, and movement to grieve the destructive aspects of our world, let go of the narrowness and constriction created by anxiety/fear, we will move through phases of grief, release, and calling in, in an embodied emotional feeling of a vision for the world to come. We will invite the strength of our prophetic ancestors, Eliyahu and Miriam, drawing their vision into our own being to carry with us as we walk through the world.
We will be singing in Hebrew and English. While this event is based on Jewish spiritual practice, folks from all spiritual backgrounds are welcome to join us.
ABOUT THE LOCATION
This event will be held outside in a private nature center. We will have a sacred fire burning. We will be in beautiful surroundings of nature and co-existing with those elements. We invite you to bring what you need in order to be comfortable. Here are some suggestions:
-a camping chair
-a picnic blanket
-natural bug spray (if using deet, please spray before you come and not during the event)
-long sleeves and long pants to prevent bug bites
We will do our best to keep the mosquitoes away with citronella candles and other all-natural repellent devices.
ABOUT HAZON ELIYAHU
Hazon Eliyahu Spiritual Center is a new initiative for those with a commitment to making the world a better place, who long for community in which to build lasting and impactful spiritual practices. Utilizing meditation, song, movement, drumming, and prayer, Hazon Eliyahu celebrates the far too short life of a well-known and beloved Chicago movement builder, Elliot Weis. This initiative memorializes Elliot's commitment to social justice, his passion for sharing spiritual practice, Judaism, and song.
WHO IS HAZON ELIYAHU
Hazon Eliyahu is in it's birthing stages. The initiative was founded by Rabbi Menachem Cohen (Makom Shalom Mitziut). Leah Shoshanah (singer-songwriter, cantorial soloist, facilitator), a close friend of Elliot Weis, has joined Rabbi Menachem to help bring this event to life.
